We’re proud to be partners with Pet Refuge

Pets are part of the family, so it is important that they have somewhere to go if affected by family violence. Pet Refuge is a charity that aims to provide a temporary safe haven for the pets of family violence victims. They will be working alongside Women’s Refuge. Shine and the NZ Police to care for pets while their owners escape abuse.

Most victims can’t take their pets with them when seeking refuge, so for many victims of domestic abuse they must make the choice between leaving their fur-baby behind or staying to protect them. Research indicates that a staggering 53 per cent of people have delayed leaving situations of family violence due to fear for their pets safety.* Pet Refuge will help these victims leave earlier.

The first Pet Refuge shelter, which is currently under construction, will assist pets from around the country from mid-2021.

We are proud to be able to be a part of the Pet Refuge story and work closely with them to help more Kiwi pets live happier, healthier, safer lives.
