Do you worry about being able to afford vet fees if your cat has an accident, gets sick or needs an operation? With Southern Cross Pet Insurance, it's easy to find a plan that suits your budget and needs. For accident and illness cover, choose from our four PetCare plans.

Other things worth knowing 

Who can get cover?

Dogs and cats aged between 8 weeks and 6 years old, at the time of policy commencement for our PetCare range of plans. There is no maximum age restriction on the AcciPet plan. If your pet is between 6 and 20 weeks old, you could be eligible for our free cover offer.

Cover for inherited conditions 

Inherited conditions are genetic problems passed down through your pet’s bloodline. They can be expensive to treat, so you can rest easy knowing that Southern Cross provides cover for inherited conditions. 

Stand down period

If your application is approved, cover for injury begins from the start date of your policy. The following stand down periods apply from your policy start date: 21 days for illness; 90 days for cruciate ligament(s) and patella luxation(s); and 90 days for dental care extra. Please note the stand down period applies to the date of treatment, not the date the claim is submitted. 

 

Ways to reduce the cost of cover

Co-payment. A co-payment option is available on both plans. With a co-payment, you’ll contribute 20% to the cost of your pet’s vet care. Full cover options are available on both plans as well. 

Monthly direct debit. If you pay your premium by monthly direct debit, you receive a 2.5% discount.

Discount for multiple pets. A 5% discount may apply if you insure more than one pet (cat or dog).

Southern Cross Health Society member. A 2.5% discount applies if you have health insurance with Southern Cross.

 

Cooling off period

If you’re not completely satisfied with the terms and conditions of your policy, you can cancel and receive a full refund by notifying us within 14 days of your policy start date (assuming you haven't made a claim under the policy during this time).
